Town of Springfield Receives $1 Million Grant for Water System Improvements
Springfield, Colorado – March 18, 2025
The Town of Springfield has been awarded a $1,000,000 grant by the Colorado Department of Local Affairs (DOLA) to support critical improvements to the town’s water system. This funding will enable the town to enhance its water infrastructure, ensuring a safe and reliable water supply for its residents and leverage funding already received from the USDA.
The grant was presented by Mayor Tyler Gibson and Mike Ingle, Water Superintendent for the Town of Springfield, with invaluable assistance from Tammy Newman, Town Manager, and Element Engineering. Their combined efforts were key to securing this significant funding, which will address critical needs in the town’s water system.
Mayor Gibson expressed his excitement about the award, stating, “This $1 million grant is an exciting step for Springfield. It will allow us to address long-standing needs in our water system, providing our residents with the quality and reliability they deserve. We are grateful to the Department of Local Affairs for their continued support and to Element Engineering for handling the technical aspects of the project.”
The Springfield Water System Improvements project was selected following a competitive review process, which evaluated factors such as the project’s connection to energy impacts, the degree of community need, measurable outcomes, and the town’s readiness to proceed. Funded through federal mineral lease proceeds, this grant underscores the importance of energy resources in strengthening local infrastructure and community resilience.
The improvements align with Springfield’s community goals and will deliver lasting benefits to residents and businesses alike. The project reflects the Board of Trustees' commitment to enhancing the town's infrastructure and supporting sustainable growth.
